OperateIT SCADA Portal improves process control in district heating Ebeltoft District Heating Plant was established in 1963 and since 1988 its processes have been controlled using ABB process control systems. Now it is also the world’s first district heating plant to run the new OperateIT SCADA Portal control system.

When on the 7th of November at 9.15 in the morning furnace operator Jørgen Møller threw a burning oil soaked cloth into boiler number two at the Ebeltoft District Heating Plant, it both marked the beginning of the heating season and the baptism of fire for the world’s first OperateIT SCADA Portal control system. Initially a 24-hour test run had been
planned, but because of a sudden weather change with snow and temperatures below freezing point, it was decided to keep the boiler, and consequently, the control system running. The system has been running flawlessly ever since.
